Question -- Serge, thank you for a very good newsletter! My question is this: someone told me that an old domain can rank better and faster than a new one. Is that true, and if so, could you explain why? Thanks.

Answer -- Whoever told you that is right. The reason is simple; Google places something that can be defined as a 'waiting period' on all recently registered domains. The exact amount of time isn't clear but estimates range between a low of 3 to 4 months to a high of close to a year.

Why does it do that? In the old days of the Internet, just almost anybody could register a new domain and get it ranked high in a matter of just a few weeks.
