Thanks and I'm happy if my DMOZ article was helpful for you. Your question is very pertinent and representative of similar ones I get quite often. My best answer to you is, there are still many search engines today that have trouble reading past the question mark delimiter, in other words, they cannot go further than the (?) in the URL or your PHP filename.

For website functionality reasons and if your site cannot operate properly on anything other than PHP, then what I would recommend is that you build your most important pages in HTML and link them all to your sitemap.
