Same thing for the favicon.ico file. When it works right, that file tells you that somebody has saved your site's URL in their favorites. However, none of those 2 files would cause the problems you are having in Google. It seems to me you need a constant 'doze of refreshing' on your homepage. Here's a tip you can use and its something we've done in the past and it works: Whenever you have a newly-created page that you need to upload to your server, make sure you place a link to it from your homepage. You don't have to leave that link there permanently, but make sure it stays there until Google re-indexes your homepage. In your case, this may take a bit more time, but one thing is for sure: frequently updated homepages get more visits from Googlebot and get indexed a lot more often. The idea is to always create new content that is relevant to your site and that will help your users. It can be a news event tied to your business, a new product or service you are offering, a special event or seminar, etc. Use your creative imagination and I'm sure you can come up with some great ideas.
