Another 'tip of the hat' to Google!

Always leave it to Google for new ideas and innovations that benefit the user... and Google's profits! I'm talking of course about Google's announcement on Monday that it is now offering current AdSense publishers a monetary incentive to refer new AdSense customers to Google's already very successful program.

Google's AdSense are the ads you can see at the left of this screen. Advertisers that are part of Google's AdWords PPC program can choose to have their ads placed on other sites, which will drastically increase their visibility. In exchange of placing the ads on their sites, AdSense publishers share a percentage of the ad revenue with Google.

But Google isn't alone in this sector anymore. In August, Yahoo launched its Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN for short). The new YPN works essentially the same as Google's AdSense. You can also expect MSN to come up with something very similar real soon.

Now that Google is a public company, it has to answer to shareholders and has to continue delivering strong profits, especially now that its stock is hovering near the $400 a share mark!

Don't get me wrong. Google's initiative of offering AdSense publishers up to $100 for each referral that comes from a referral banner similar to the one above this paragraph is a great one. But I suspect its in direct retaliation to Yahoo's new YPN program, and the few more that are probably soon to follow.

To qualify, referred publishers must earn a minimum $100 of revenue in any given period of time before Google credits the respective AdSense site that made the referral. Like all of Google's new ideas this one is a great one too, so here's a "tip of the hat" to you Google.

Update Jagger 3 is all over
Well this week marks the longest Google update ever witnessed so far. This update, dubbed the 'Jagger Update' actually started with Jagger 1 (the first part of a three-phase update) on around October 16. About nine days later, Jagger 2 kicked in and just a few days ago, Jagger 3 was about 98% complete. I'm still seeing some "dust settling" here and there, but overall, it's been a fairly good update, I must say.

Judging from some of the posts I've seen in other forums and discussions boards, not all webmasters or site owners will agree with me. For some, I'm sure it was a brutal update, with some sites taking a beating on the results pages. According to some of the things I've read, there is a fair number of websites that saw large downgrades in their overall rankings in the reults pages, some of them being very relevant "white hat" sites, where most of them haven't even engaged in any link exchanges or link buying programs.

Some call this "collateral damage" and they are hoping it will be corrected in Google's next update. When will that be? My guess would be around the Dec. 28-30 period. According to past years, Google likes to start the new year with a newly-refreshed index. The same usually goes with its PR rating system also.

As always, you can count on me to keep you posted on any new developments that will happen next. If it's about search engines, SEO or search engine marketing, you will see it here!

Well, that's it for today folks. Thanks for being here and I will see you all next week. Have a great and safe weekend!
