Did a Google representative say too much about AdSense? On Monday, there was a report that somebody (don't know who) sort of "spilled the beans" over at Google regarding an AdSense publisher that had a question on conversions for the popular Google ads. Google's AdSense program are the vertical strips (called skyscrapers) that you can see at the left of this screen. Everytime someone clicks on them, the publisher shares part of the revenue with Google. Advertisers are the ones paying for the ads. The whole thing started when the Google representative started talking about Google Smart Pricing, and the rep went on and said: "Smart pricing is evaluated each week. So removing ads from sites you suspect are converting poorly could result in seeing an adjustment to a higher smart pricing percent in as little as a week." "Smart pricing is tracked with a 30 day cookie, so you could be rewarded for new conversions that saw the initial click from your site up to 29 days earlier." "Image ads are also affected by smart pricing. With smart pricing, an advertiser could end up paying less than their minimum bid, which would theoretically include the minimum bid price available, meaning publishers earn less for even the minimum valued clicks." As you can expect, it didn't take long for this to leak out into forums and discussion boards! Google's AdSense program has always been kept under tight scrutiny because of Google's very strict Terms of Use for AdSense publishers. Its always been like that, even from the beginning. So when I saw that information "being leaked out", I sort of cringed at first! Should the Google rep have said that? Was he or she reprimanded for saying this? Anyway, that news did get my attention. Well, that's it for today folks. Thanks for being here and I will see you all next week. Have a great and safe weekend!
