And yet, I know Google counts them, since we follow and track the optimization results of all of those sites very closely, since it’s an important way for us to find out how our clients’ sites are really doing in the results pages. It also tells us how their competitors are doing too, so that we can write them in our recommendations to our clients. For example, if this month you have 30 new links pointing at your site that you didn’t have the previous month, again you probably won’t see all of them when you check for your back links.

However, I must confess that there are times when Google omits to give you credit for a few of them. This could be indicative that either the link is really off-topic and completely irrelevant, or that maybe Google feels that link is almost worthless for some reason, so it simply drops it from its PR database. But these are in rare cases. Most of the time, Google credit links coming to your site. They just don't show them in the backlinks, that's all. I know it's a bit frustrating at times, but welcome to the world of search engine algorithms!
