(Continued) The RFS Newsletter, Oct. 15, 2005. Page 14 I once seen a site with a PR 7 fall all the way down to PR 5 for failing to renew about 60 links they had directed at their site. They figured that since their site moved from a low PR of 4 all the way up to 7 that they didn't need as many links after a while. That was a big mistake and after renewing the 60 or so links they once abandoned, they got back to the PR 7 level. So links do matter. As to the Prolonged Effect, are you referring to the Google Sandbox theory? If you are, you're right. All new sites are placed in a form of "Sandbox" (for lack of a better word) for between 3 months up to a year. Call this the "Google Aging Process", since that's exactly what it is. After the site has passed the 'Google spam tests', it is then removed from the sandbox and placed more favorably in the SERP's. That's how Google works and there's really no way around this.
