Lastly but not least, make sure you deal with a professional SEO company that has a clear and very detailed code of ethics. And make sure their code of ethics is prominently displayed on their site, instead of being buried somewhere it can't be found or in such small type font that its almost impossible to read!

As the old saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Realistically, most SEO and SEM companies in business today do a great job for their clients, and represent tremendous value and high ROI. But you have to be on the lookout for what I call the "Bottom 5%"... the unethical ones that only care about your money, not your ROI. Hope that helps.
