You're right: GoogleBot is just that: a bot (or crawler or spider). All it does is that it brings back to the Google search engine what it finds on the Web. The ultimate decisions are taken by Google's search engine algorithm. That's where all the action REALLY takes place!

Everything I read suggest that the alt tag and title attribute are "loved" by spiders and are utilized in the keywords of a site. The first thing I wondered was if that could not hurt your site because it may come off as excessive use of keywords, now I am not so sure they apply to keywords, but wonder if having them in terms of accessibility is still beneficial as accessibility is important. In every alt description I have not once was a word highlighted when it matched a word used in the search query.

Be careful that you don't "stuff" Alt Tags since Google would view that as Spam.
