Question -- Serge, thank you for writing such a great newsletter. My question is, we have submitted our site to AltaVista almost 2 1/2 months ago. I know you always tell us to wait at least two to three months, but here's what we don't understand: we also signed up about 8 URL's using AltaVista's express inclusion system and we are still not getting any serious traffic from them. On the other hand, the exact same eight URL's provide us with over 15 times the traffic on Yahoo, Google and even MSN! Serge, don't people use AltaVista anymore?

I'm real happy if you appreciate reading our newsletter. Personally, I've always loved AltaVista and I still use it a lot. Do people use AltaVista anymore? Yes they are, although I must frankly admit that A/V's utilization rate has certainly gone down, especially in the last three years. More competition in the search arena, with the likes of Google, Yahoo and now MSN certainly did'nt help them. However, remember that Yahoo acquired AltaVista about a year and half ago, and Yahoo is certainly a strong contender in the search industry. It's rather difficult to predict what the future holds for AV.
