The new search function applies to Yahoo Mail messages stored on Yahoo's servers, not locally on users' hard drives. However, Garcia said Yahoo is likely to integrate it into other products and services, including possibly Yahoo's desktop search software. Another new Yahoo Mail search feature is the ability to see thumbnail images of pictures and documents attached to e-mail messages, Garcia said. Users can also open the actual documents from the thumbnail images, he said.

In other news on Tuesday, Chinese search engine Baidu said it increased its market share in Beijing by 10.8 percentage points to 52 percent, as reported by a survey conducted by the China Internet Network Information Center. Google Inc.'s share was at 33 percent, as the American Internet search engine kept its customer base steady while the overall market grew, said the survey, seen Tuesday on CNNIC's Web site. The three cities account for most of Chinese Internet use. In January, Google held the largest market share in the three cities covered by the survey, the report said, but gave no specific figures. CNNIC's survey found that now Baidu holds a 43.9 percent market share in Shanghai compared to 38.2 percent for Google.
