Back to school... and back to preparing your site for Christmas! It's this time of the year, again! Now that most kids, students and their teachers have gone back to school, you only have a few weeks left to prepare your website for the busy and lucrative Christmas period. Yes, I know: I talk about this every year, but its because there are still many that don't think of optimizing and 'tweaking' their site until... its too late! Folks, if you depend on your site for both online or offline sales, don't wait until mid-November to do it, since it will be too late and you will have lost a GREAT opportunity. At Rank for $ales, if we would get just a dollar every time we heard: "We will prepare our site after Thanksgiving and it will be just in time for Christmas", we'd be rich by now! This is no joke. For many businesses, large and small, the Christmas season is usually the busiest of the year, and its also the time of the year that can literally "make or break" a business. Don't let this happen to you. Prepare your site well in advance for this important period of the year. Make sure all your keywords are the right keywords people are searching for. If in doubt, use the most reliable tool there is to research your keywords: WordTracker. I've been using WordTracker since it came out years ago and it has never failed me. Also, make sure all your links work. This may seem obvious, but you would be surprised at the number of links I find that don't work. And its not just on some small sites either! The other day, I was reading the news on one of the biggest news website in the US (I won't mention the name) and one of the links didn't work on their homepage! I went back later and the webmaster obviously fixed it, but it goes to show that this sort of thing can happen at anytime, small site or very large. Always remember that it takes Google and the other search engines from 30 to 60 days (sometimes more) to reindex and rank pages that have been added, optimized or "refreshed" in any given site. This is perfectly normal and there isn't a single thing you can do about it. If you prepare well in advance, you will reap all the benefits.
