Is Google slipping? Is it losing its stance? These days, there are some that are starting to wonder if Google is losing it. Losing it? What am I referring to you may ask? Well as we all found out earlier this week, Google has removed Blootooth functionality from its Android operating system. If you've been reading this newsletter for at least three or four months, then you know that this publication covers one topic and one topic alone: SEO. So why am I referring to Google's Android mobile platform? Well because there are some out there that are starting to think that Google isn't as good and as relevant as it used to be, and that now it's trying to be too many things to too many people. Make no mistake; removing Bluetooth functionality from any wireless device today is like trying to place a car in the ocean and expect it to run normally. Bluetooth today isn't a 'nice to have' feature anymore but a neccessity. In many states and in many Canadian provinces such as Quebec, it is now ILLEGAL to drive a car while talking on a mobile phone. You can be fined hundreds of dollars, and, worse, you can endanger your own life or someone else's if you lose control of your car in an accident while talking on that cell phone. Does Google fully understand the mobile market? I would assume it does. Why else would it invest the large sums of money and its great human resources if it didn't. Last year, when I read that Google was developing its Android mobile platform, like many others, I asked myself: "What does Google know about wireless technology?" Nevertheless, there are still many people in the linux community and mobile application developers of the open source model that think Google made a huge mistake this week by removing Bluetooth technology from Android. In the next few weeks we will no doubt see how others react to this. It will be interesting to watch, even if this dosen't impact Google's search activities in any way. One great resource I recommend if you wish to stay in touch with all that's happening in the rapidly growing mobile phone industry is Wireless Industry News.org. Well, that's it for now. Have a pleasant and relaxing weekend, and I will see you all next time, Saturday Sep. 27, 2008.
