Is Google's FreshBot dead? Where did it go?Forum member Claire_V started an interesting thread late Thursday night. Claire has been increasingly noticing that Google's FreshBot isn't coming much anymore to her site. Then she also noticed that FreshBot isn't coming to bigger news sites such as CNN and a few more either. I think she might be on to someting there... I must agree that I didn't see it myself since about 10 days ago. You can read Claire's Forum Thread Here. For those of you that don't know what Fresh Bot is, it's simply a date stamp that Google places in its search results pages. That date represents the last time it visited your homepage. I say the homepage since that's the first page that GoogleBot looks at when it visits a site. There can also be other pages of a site that it visits more than once a day, but the FreshBot 'date stamp' is usually on the root of the domain, ie the homepage. For an example of what it looks like, simply view the window below. ![]() FreshBot has been around for many years and, personally, I'd sure like to see it around more. However, I agree with many of the forum members that have suggested a good alternative would be to look at your server log files, or, better still use Google's Analytics. They are free and they do a great job at drilling down all your traffic stats. You should regularly check your stats often anyway, Freshbot or not... From what I can see, Google might be doing some changes to its search algorithm or is simply in the process of tweaking it a bit, and the best way for them is to temporarily remove Freshbot from the equation while it is revamping its algo. My 2 cents. Well, that's it for this week. Have a pleasant and relaxing weekend, I will see you all next Saturday!
