2) SEO myth: Doorway & gateway pages When the Internet was still in its infancy, doorway and gateway pages could, in certain circumstances, have partly served some ligitimate function, although opinions vary wildly on that assumption. We say partly because, doorway and gateway pages have always been illegal and prohibited on most major Internet search engines. And they still are, in fact even more today than at any other time. However, that did not prevent certain individuals or companies from using doorway or gateway pages. Don't underestimate the power of blogsIn case you still think that blogs (Web Logs) are a passing fad and that they will go away over time, think again! Blogs are increasingly popular and represent one of the best and fastest method of communicating with customers, workers, suppliers, colleagues, friends, family, etc. They are also one of the best ways to promote your brand and your Web site. Back in November 2004, I wrote an article on how a blog can help you promote your website and the correct way of doing it. That article has since been very popular, and I regularly get a lot of questions and enquiries about it. That's right, it's almost three years ago, and blogs now have become the mainstream of the Internet. Today, business blogs are used by politicians, doctors, scientists, journalists, architects, writers, house wives, teenagers, people from all walks of life, and, your's truly. The secret in making a blog successful and getting a lot of traffic to it is to constantly write and upload new content all the time. If you have a new product or service that you're offering, talk about it on your blog, and make sure you place a link on your blog back to your main site. The idea is to be creative. There's not one self-respecting SEO that I know of that don't have his or her own blog already. Blogs are a great place to talk about new ideas in your own specific industry, news about your company, the work or the projects you are currently working on, etc. etc. The possibilities are endless. You are only limited by your imagination. Visit the blogs of some of your peers, or, your very own competitors! See how they do it, and maybe, just maybe there's a few things that perhaps you can do better... The secret is to create original and unique content that will be read and appreciated by your viewers. There are many ways of doing it. If you do a search on Google, type in: blogs and (your industry). For example, yesterday I typed in Google "blogs house decoration" and the SERPs came out with over 2,000,000 pages! Use the right platform There are other good blogging platforms also. Just find one that works for you and that you feel comfortable with and just do it. Most of them are designed with simplicity and speed in mind. From what I know, most people can learn very rapidly on creating a great blog that will work, will drive added business to your main site, and will help promote your brand further. It works for me! On a side note, speaking of blogs, I am in the process of creating my second blog: SignalVersusNoise.com, a new and innovative blog that will focus on the intersection of the Internet and new ideas in marketing, new concepts in selling products and services, marketing news, etc. My new marketing blog will officially open Monday, Sep. 10, 2007 so maybe you should take a note of that.
