Google-- always trying harder and harder... One piece of news that really grabbed my attention this week is this one. There's no question that Google wants to maintain it's top number one spot in the world of Internet search, and to that effect, it is ready to do almost anything. This week's news that Google is launching its Google Talk Instant Messaging (IM) feature is further proof of that. Not only is it trying to offer a similar IM service that Yahoo, MSN and AOL has already been offering for quite some time, but knowing Google, they will probably make it better over time. It's strategy is very simple and uncomplicated: get the maximum number of eyeballs to it's search engine, and keep them there for as long as it can! It sure sounds like a good strategy to me. If AOL and Yahoo were successful in doing this, I'm willing to bet that Google will probably make it even more successful. Of course, and as some of you might expect, there are always 'nay-sayers' or people that will tell you Google is late in this new project. After all, Instant Message service ICQ, a company that AOL bought in 2002 has been around since 1999 and Yahoo's IM feature has been available for at least the past three years. The outcome of all this is important. If Google is successful in grabbing some valuable market share from Yahoo, MSN and AOL from its new instant messaging service, it will prove once more that it can "build a better mouse trap". Well, that's it for today folks. Thanks for being here and I will see you all next week. Have a great and safe weekend!
