(Continued)     The RFS Newsletter, August 27, 2005. Page 11

Hello and I'm happy if you all enjoy our newsletter. That's why I publish it: to help people and companies better understand the world of search engines. Multiple domains IS certainly one of the topics we get asked a lot. In answering your question, using multiple domains for marketing purposes has been a controversial SEO technique for many years. In the old days of the Internet (1994-1999), it was believed by many that the more domain names you had, the better your chances of getting higher rankings in the search engines.

Others will tell you, use only one site and one domain name, and place the most relevant and unique content on it and you will do great. My philosophy always has been and still is this: If you are only selling one particular type of product or service that covers just one basic industry, you don't need more than one domain name and you don't need more than one website.
