Generic (organic) listings are the ones you should pay the most attention to, since, by instinct, people will usually click on them more than paid listings. Since pay per click search engines need to disclose their advertisements with a disclaimer such as "Sponsored Links" or something like that, for some reason, there are searchers that feel those listings may not be as good quality or as relevant. Whatever the reason, experience shows us organic listings get the most targeted traffic.

If you have tried to optimize your site for generic listings in the past, and if you are not achieving the kind of success you were anticipating, then buying PPC advertising on Pay per Click search engines can make some sense. The most important factor you need to know about PPC is that you CANNOT just set it up once and forget about it! This is exactly where people that are new to PPC can get into trouble, and they sometimes find out that PPC can be really a lot more expensive in the long run than generic SEO.
