Answer -- Supplemental Results in the Google search engine are the result of sites that come up with either less relevant results or pages in their root domain that may not be unique. First, Google's Big Daddy update in the early part of 2006 has been largely responsible for supplemental results.

BUT, don't get me wrong on this. Big Daddy was a good update in that it cleaned out a lot of search engine spam and clutter in Google and successfully eliminated millions of pages and sites that were damaging Google's integrity in its search results. That was a GOOD thing and for that I'm grateful to Google's engineers. The price to pay for that is that, unfortunately, some otherwise good and relevant sites got taken in as 'bad apples' to... Alas, nothing is perfect in this world, not even Google!
