Answer -- I'm happy to know that our newsletter is appreciated! I don't know where you read that or who told you this but mod_rewrite cannot increase (or decrease) a site's rankings in any way. Mod_rewrite only has one purpose: as it's name implies, it rewrites long and meaningless URLs into search engine-friendly ones.

Of course, there are never any guarantees that the site will rank better, but it certainly stands a better chance. Mod_rewrite is used mostly with dynamic Web sites. Dynamic sites are usually eCommerce sites, or sites that make use of a database to produce 'on-the-fly' code for its pages.
