Seasonal sales anyone? We've talked about this a number of times but I'm still seeing a lot of businesses (and some not so small) that seem to be missing out on the proper timing for what I call seasonal changes. If your business is seasonal in nature and if it changes about three to four times a year, you would fall into this category! Does your site sell sporting goods? Do you sell flowers online? What if you happen to package vacation trips on some romantic islands? All three of these businesses would qualify for what I call seasonal businesses. Let's take the sporting goods example above. Today, there are sports that people practice for each of the four seasons. Now that we are almost in the summer (here anyway) it would be too late to have your site optimized now in order to reap the benefits of this summer's sales bonanza. The perfect time to have that done would have been at least three to four months prior to the season. Personally, I would get ready even earlier! Google and even Yahoo have a tendency of "skipping" at certain times of the year. What do I mean by this? If you regularly check your site's rankings you will see at times that Google has 'refreshed' your listing. This is the action of what we call Google's FreshBot. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, take a look at the Google search results printscreen below. ![]() As you can see from the red outline, the Tech Blog website has been refreshed on May 2nd by Freshbot. This means that any updates or any new pages that have been added to the site have been picked up by Google and will be indexed soon. How soon? Only Google knows that for sure. But it should usually be done within the next 7 to 10 days. Conclusion As the old saying goes: Don't wait for spring-- do it now! If you don't have the time, the experience or the proper tools to optimize your site, you need to outsource to a good SEO firm. The proper optimization of a website is more and more clitical today than it has ever been. Well, that's it for this week. Have a pleasant and relaxing weekend, I will see you all next Saturday!
