Page 15 And Number Two, there's another even more important reason why you should write them: People with reading disabilities and/or blind people rely on them to 'read' what the image is all about. It is estimated that at least 1/2 to 1% of people using the Internet have (today) or will have in the near future some form of reading disability or part-blindness. If you have keywords in your Alt Image Tags, just scrolling their mouse over will tell them (from the sound in their speakers) what the keywords are. This is all part of good site design and good site usability. Don't design or write your site for the search engines... Build a great site for your users with great usability features and they will come back all the time. If they come back, so will the search engines. You'd be amazed to learn how much Google knows about a site, by simply sending their crawlers to spider a site daily. They can tell right away which sites offer the best user features, the best content, the best navigation elements, etc. By the same token, they can detect almost right away if I site was put together with only the search engines in mind.
