Question -- Serge, I know you just HATE Flash and that the search engines cannot index sites done in Flash, but can I place just a small Flash banner on my site? Will it affect my rankings? It will only be about 4 inches wide by about 2 inches high. Thanks.

Answer -- I'm glad you asked that question! Such a small banner in Flash WON'T affect your rankings in any way. What I'm against is when I see a whole site done in Flash, where there isn't even the slightest trace of HTML to index on ANY of the pages!

But if you do what you just said, you will be A-OK. A small Flash banner can help you "jazz up" a site more than any other technology or graphic image. Just don't go overboard with it... Flash is like an alcoholic drink. It tastes better in moderation!
