Question -- Hi Serge and I wish to take the time to thank you for a valuable and helpful newsletter. Just a brief question: Just how many data centers does Google have exactly? Thanks.

Answer -- I'm glad to see our newsletter is appreciated and enjoyed by so many. I wished I knew the answer to your question! Only Google knows exactly that number. My guess would be, in the US they probably have about 20 data centers. In Canada, maybe 5 or 6, in the UK, 1 or 2, with about 8 to 10 for the rest of Europe. In Asia, I would estimate they have 8 to 10. In South America, I would say they have maybe 3 or 4. Of course, don't take these numbers to the 'bank' sort-to-speak! I'm only guesstimating here.

I know for a fact that there are about 30 to 40 employees and engineers at Google that read this newsletter every week, so if one of you would like to answer that question with more accuracy, I will be more than happy to post the results here next week.
