Don't risk your site's long-term rankings for such a small BUT VERY IMPORTANT AND CRITICAL detail. People don't seem to realize how Google takes the 301 / 302 debate seriously. Do you like to live dangerously? Although she seems to have an overall good knowledge of SEO, I generally don't agree with the comments set forth by Ms. Claiborne regarding her view on 302 temporary redirects. Besides, if you carefully read Google's Terms of Use, it clearly states that 301's are the only way to redirect ANY URL...

A redirect should ALWAYS BE permanent, thus you should always go for the 301, period. As far as I'm concerned, 302's should be cancelled completely and sent to the W3C to be removed as a standard Internet command! In a perfect world, once the governing body (the W3C) would have eliminated them, it would send the user a "404 error - page does not exist" message. That way, the only method left to redirect would be with a permanent 301. If ever I meet the group of people that have invented 302's I think I would have a few questions to ask them as to the reasons behind their implementation... ;-) Please e-mail me back if you have additional questions or comments on this important topic.
