Answer -- Thanks for the kudos. We've had that problem once or twice in the past 18 months. Like you, rankings weren't affected in Google or even MSN but we found that they were a lot more volatile in Yahoo for some strange reason. Here are a few possibilities that could have caused that:

Temporary testing in Yahoo's new search algorithm

A small glitch in their search software that went undiscovered

A page in your site that got particularly affected more than another

Whatever the root cause of the problem was, on both instances those 2 sites managed to come back to the same rankings they enjoyed a few weeks before Yahoo updated their software, which tells me that in fact they were trying a newly modified search algo.
