(Continued) The Rank for $ales Weekly Newsletter, Mar. 18, 2006. Page 18 Google's Big Daddy Update: Did you Fall Off a Cliff?
Well as I'm sure you are fully aware by now, Google has completed about 99.9% for its largest database update ever, appropriately called the Google Big Daddy Update. The whole thing started around the January 15-20 period and will probably be all over (it is hoped!) Monday morning, Mar. 20. Folks, that's a two-month update! Remember the old days when it took only a few days to complete? Did your site move up, stayed the same or worse, did it go down by now? As you are reading this and as you compare your site's rankings to before Jan. 15 you should be in either one of the three groups. Hopefully your site is among the first one: it went up in the SERPs. A lot did in fact. All in all, I would say that Big Daddy was a 'good' update and many sites that were not listed as high in the SERPs have since moved up in their rankings. If that is the case for you, I'm thrilled and you (or your SEO) must have done a great job pushing your site there. If on the other hand your site didn't move at all and stayed exactly where it was before the update, all I can hope is that you were happy with your original rankings before the update. If you happen to fall in the third, more 'unfortunate' group that saw their rankings drop, in some cases drastically, then there are two alternatives left for you:
1) Continue to work hard at better optimizing your site, or This week I took the time to carefully analyze the SEO we did on 30 sites in the past twelve months. Of those thirty sites, three of them are new ones with their domain names' ages varying between one to two years. Of those 30 sites only two of them stayed where they were before Jan. 15, with 80% of their most important keywords on the first results pages in Yahoo and MSN, and the second results page in Google. Since Big Daddy, the other 28 sites moved up in their rankings. Some moved from the fourth page to the first. Others moved up from page six to page one, others from page 3 to page 2 of Google. Remember that most of those sites happen to be in very competitive industries or market niches such as jewelry, real estate, automobile, manufacturing, computer accessories, the medical field and insurance. Overall, I'm really happy at the way these sites are performing from an SEO point of view. If you would like to have a similar experience with your site, by all means contact us and we will be happy to analyze your site and offer you a competitive quote for your site. There's really no reason for you to wait another month. Do it now. Well, thats it for this week. Have a pleasant and relaxing weekend. I will see you all next Saturday!
