Number one, if there's one thing that really frustrates me is when I place a reciprocal link on one of our clients' site, and the other party does the same, but I find out a few months down the road that my client's link has been removed, but he's still linking to them in good faith! This really gets to me in a very big way, since it is dishonest and goes to show that not all link partners are equal!

But wait-- it gets worse... Once they have provided you with a true text link that is indexable, some of the really bad ones I've seen will, after a few weeks, 'hide' your link behind a JavaScript or image file, in an attempt to 'hoard their PR' all to themselves. And the list goes on. I could probably write a book on the 101 things some "evil webmasters" will think of to cheat the system!

So what's an honest webmaster or site owner to do? Well, do like we've been doing here for about a year now: Lease quality one-way links from a reputable link broker and you will sleep a lot better at night! Ask any good SEO or any search engine and they will tell you that a one-way link is considered stronger than any two-way link, such as a reciprocal. And it makes a lot of sense when you think of it.
