So is Google's PR still as important as it used to be? Yes I think so, although it will be interesting to see the results once BD has completed its full cycle and the results have fully propagated in all of Google's data centers.

But I'm still one strong believer that a site with a 6 or 7 rating is stronger than a site that has just a 1 or 2 and that those stronger sites will always do a lot better in the SERP's, provided we are comparing apples and apples of course.

All you need to do is simply focus on creating a great site with lots of quality and updated information that will interest your readers and you will do very well. I've always said: "Create a site for your users, not the search engines". In fact, if you read Google's ToS and its webmaster section they will tell you exactly the same thing!
