I remember as early as just a few years ago when some Canadian companies were cold to the idea of owning a website. In the past year, they've changed their minds and have asked us to design and build them a site and optimize it as we go along.

There is no question there is an important turnaround at this time. Having said all that, I still strongly believe that Page Rank is still important and that if a site has a PR of 6 and its next competitor has a PR 2, the 6 will outrank the 2, or at least that's how its supposed to be (with all else being equal of course).

At some point in time, will Google put a bit less weight in its PR algorithm? Its possible as anything else is possible with Google. Remember that, since its very early beginnings in 1998, Google has always distinguished itself as the most relevant search engine and still is. One of the largest contributors of that is its patented Page Rank Algorithm that nobody else has been able to come close to as of now.
