Don't fall into what I call the "PR Trap" where some people actually lose sleep over all of that! It just isn't worth it. Sure, if your site has a strong PR 7 and your competition has a 3, theoretically your site should be higher up in the results pages. But, there again I've seen some exceptions where sites with only a PR 2 outranked a much larger PR 5 site, simply because the PR 2 site was better optimized than its PR 5 counterpart.

Until Google finishes its Big Daddy update (and even afterwards), you should really concentrate on building your site and adding many new pages with useful and relevant content for your users and try to build a truly great Internet resource. Now that will go a long way towards the long-term goals you should really be setting for yourself and where you would like your site to be in five years from now.
