In unrelated news on Tuesday, MSN executives also said the company launched a massive ad campaign for its new search engine, MSN Search, which left its beta version for a regular launch on Tuesday. The campaign is designed to break Google's stranglehold on name-recognition in search. "It's true right now that Google does represent search, and a lot of people don't really think of MSN when they think of search, and our campaign is all about changing that," said Corporate Vice President for Global MSN Marketing Jane Boulware.

As stated earlier, and after the closing bell on Tuesday, Google reported strong increases in sales and earnings in its fourth quarter. Its stock surged after hours on the news. The top search engine company reported net income of $204 million, or 71 cents a share, a 650 percent increase from the same period last year.
