Question -- Serge, I love your newsletter! Thanks. Just a quick question: someone told me it's better that Google discovers my site on its own rather than if I submit it manually. Is this true?

Answer -- Yes, it is true. The only way Google can discover a new site is if you have other sites that are linking to you. If you build a great site, others will be happy to link to you on their own. In SEO, links are an important part of the whole process. If your site dosen't have any links pointing to it, it will be hard for you to derive serious generic traffic from the search engines. Sites that are pointing to you will ensure you many years of good and relevant traffic to your site. Consider inbound links as good friends that are there to help you. Without links, your site will become what some call an 'isolated island'.
