Although it is true that the site may suffer temporarily from a drop in it's rankings, I'm still not certain if this is a good idea, after having seen what Google can do to sites that have had 302's placed on them. I sure would like to hear directly from Google's own Matt Cutts on this. In the mean time, we are still recommen-
ding our clients not to use 302's since we still think that the risks aren't worth it.

Having said that, readers to this newsletter should fully understand that site owners and webmasters don't place 301's (or even 302's) on sites for the sake of placing them! There has to be a good reason for them in the first place. Reasons such as corporate rebranding, or a name change, or a merger or something to that effect would certainly warrant a redirect from an old domain to a new one.
