Question -- Serge, I love your newsletter. Keep up the great work! What's happening with Google's PR rating? Since the end of December our site has been hovering between PR 4 and 5 all the time. We've noticed it changed about 8 times in the last three weeks alone. Is this normal? Thanks.

Answer -- I'm real happy if you like our newsletter. Google has been (as its always been) very quiet on the whole subject. You're right: we've been observing exactly the same thing since about Dec. 30. Remember that usually (the keyword here is usually) Google performs a complete update of its PR database around the Dec. 31 / Jan. 1st period of every year-- at least that's what it did for the last three to four years that we've been monitoring it closely.

For some unknown reasons, this one was very different. Some brand new sites we've built and some we've optimized since the Sep. / Oct. period of 2005 should show some PR and yet the toolbar is still all white. Worse, some we've done in June and July of last summer go up and down in their PR. Some have even 'whited-out' for briefs periods, only to come back to their original PR 6 or PR 7 values they had obtained before.
