A-V is refreshing and spidering our clients' sites on a fairly consistent basis, about once every two to three weeks. You could (hopefully) find that your submitted pages will be added to their index soon, although I also find two and a half months is a bit long. There is, however a number of things you could do to help improve your site's visibility, not just in AltaVista, but also in the other major search engines. Such important design elements as the quality, the relevancy and the actual keywords and key phrases you are actually using in all your text links can and WILL make a big difference if done correctly. Also pay attention to the right keyword density throughout all of your site, since this can have a drastic impact on your site's overall rankings in the search engines. You should also pay attention to your title tags and make sure they are "in sync" with the actual topic of every section in your site. If a particular Web page only talks about yellow widgets, the title of that page should be just that: "yellow widgets".
