(Continued) The RFS Newsletter, Jan. 21, 2006. Page 10 Question -- Serge, thank you for writing such a great newsletter. There are six of us that read it every week in our company. My question is, we have submitted our site to AltaVista almost 3 1/2 months ago. I know you always tell us to wait at least two to three months, but here's what we don't understand: we also signed up about 8 URL's using AltaVista's express inclusion system and we are still not getting any serious traffic from them. On the other hand, the exact same eight URL's provide us with over 15 times the traffic on Yahoo, Google and even MSN! Serge, don't people use AltaVista anymore? Six people! Wow, I like to hear that kind of news! Personally, I've always liked AltaVista and I still use at times. Do people use AltaVista anymore? Yes they are, although I must frankly admit that A/V's utilization rate has certainly gone down quite a bit, especially in the last four years. More competition in the search arena, with the likes of Google, Yahoo and even MSN certainly didn't help them either. However, remember that Yahoo acquired AltaVista a few years ago and Yahoo is certainly a strong contender in the search industry. It's rather difficult to predict what the future holds for AV. From my observations, they pretty much always provided relevant search results and still do. Over the years, I've also noticed that people in the IT field are keen on it too.
